Root canal therapy is a conventional dental procedure that saves the tooth from extraction and stops the pain and discomfort caused due to an infected pulp. There is a lot of anxiety associated with root canal treatments, as most patients are not familiar with the procedure. But root canal therapies are not as invasive as you had imagined. It is a straightforward procedure with minimal recovery time. At All Smile Dental in California, we routinely perform root canals to enable our patients to regain their tooth function and prevent its extraction.

When Would You Need a Root Canal?
There are several instances when you may need a root canal, including:
- Significant caries and deep persistent decay that has developed under an existing restoration close to the nerve
- Nerve damage due to physical trauma or mishap
- Nerve damage due to sinus infection
- Enormous filling or other restoration causing nerve sensitivity
What Is the Procedure For Root Canals?
An X-ray will be taken during your first visit to determine the need for a root canal. Before the procedure, Dr. A. P. Singh will give a local anesthetic to numb the tooth to make your experience as comfortable and pain-free as possible. Then, using an endo microscope and other special endodontic equipment, we will clean off the decay and make an opening in the tooth to access the root canals. After the opening is made, we will remove the damaged pulp and clean each canal of debris and infection. Then the canals are sealed with the unique filling material, called gutta-percha, to prevent any leakage to the canal or repeated infection.
Finally, a temporary filling will be secured over the tooth until your new, permanent crown is ready.
Would You Need a Root Canal Crown?
A dental restorative appliance such as a crown is required to complete the care of the treated tooth. These restorations help strengthen the tooth and protect it from future damage and breakage. Crowns can be created to match the existing natural teeth and blend in effortlessly, restoring your tooth function and smile aesthetics.
