Cosmetic Periodontal Surgery in Turlock & Modesto CA

Cosmetic periodontal surgery or periodontal plastic surgery is a cosmetic dental treatment we offer at All Smile Dental to enhance the appearance of the smile by covering sensitive, unsightly, or exposed tooth root surfaces and preventing the occurrence of future gum recession.

All Smile Dental offers three types of cosmetic periodontal surgery to fix different gum-related problems at our dental office, and they are the following:

  • cosmetic crown lengthening
  • cosmetic ridge augmentation
  • connective tissue grafting

Cosmetic Crown Lengthening

A gummy smile is the result of too much gum tissue covering the teeth, making the teeth appear smaller. This condition can be treated with a cosmetic crown lengthening surgery where the dentist removes the excess gum tissue and bone to reveal more of the patient's dental crown.

A crown lengthening surgery can be performed for cosmetic as well as restorative reasons:

Restorative Crown Lengthening

During the placement of dental crowns,  a crown lengthening procedure might be recommended by your dentist if the patient doesn't have enough teeth for placing the crown because of the following reasons:

  • The tooth is broken at the gumline.
  • The gumline spreads too far.
  • The tooth root is not strong.
  • A previous crown has fallen off and has resulted in decay.

Cosmetic Crown Lengthening

If you have a gummy smile or excessive gingival display where too much gum tissue covers the teeth, the teeth will appear smaller, affecting the smile's aesthetics. A cosmetic crown lengthening surgery can be helpful to eliminate the excess gum tissue or to address uneven gum lines.

Cosmetic Ridge Augmentation

Cosmetic ridge augmentation is performed at All Smiles Dental, often following a tooth extraction to correct the uneven gum margins and recreate the natural outline of the gums and jaw that might have been lost resulting from bone loss after an extraction.

Normally, when a patient loses a tooth, the gum that encompasses the bone collapses and forms a dent, affecting the patient's smile. During a cosmetic ridge augmentation procedure, the patient's gum tissue is increased to make the new tooth appear more natural. At All Smiles Dental, we recommend this surgical procedure before the patient gets new tooth replacements.

Connective Tissue Grafting

Connective tissue grafting or soft tissue grafting is performed at All Smiles Dental to arrest gum recession and guard uncovered root surfaces. During this gum reconstruction procedure, the dentist removes a layer of healthy tissue from some location in the mouth and places it over the gum recession area to protect the tooth and the tooth root from being exposed.  This procedure can be performed to minimize the effects of gum recession resulting from periodontal disease and enhance the gums' appearance.

If you suffer from excessive gingival display or gum recession, one of the above-mentioned periodontal procedures can be used to fix the condition. These treatments can improve a person's smile and protect the sensitive areas of the teeth and gum to prevent further complications.
